The GoPro Karma Drone hit a very serious snag just a few weeks back, prompting a pre-emptive safety recall of the devices. Now, however, GoPro is selling the Karma Grip camera stabilizer that once lived inside the Karma drone as a standalone product.

The stabilizer is a handheld device that helps the camera capture steady footage as you move around by using a series of sensors and motors. The camera can charge at the same time as the stabilizer, and it doesn’t need to be unmounted in order to offload the footage.

I’ve had some interaction with the Karma Grip, though I haven’t been able to do a full review, and I was impressed from my initial usage. However, the recall of the drone looms and it will be interesting to see how that affects overall sales.

The Karma Grip costs $299 as a standalone device, which is the same price you can expect to pay for the DJI Oslo, which has a similar form factor, but is built for DJI cameras as well as smartphones.
