Unboxing the Nikon D5500 DSLR Camera with the 18-140mm Lens

  1. $1500 was never the price!

  2. I have this. Pretty disappointed about a couple aspects – the drive mode reverts back to single after every shot, which means if you stick this thing on a tripod and want a 2s delay on every shutter press, you'll have to change the drive mode after every single shot, which is absurd. There is also no AF adjustment despite the fact that it's a thing that could be made possible via software. Live view on this camera also sucks, as it does not show any exposure or depth of field changes live. Minimum brightness for AF is also weak, making night shots difficult. The internal mic also picks up AF noises pretty severely during video recording. The AF system is also very weak compared to Sony at this price point, it barely covers any of the frame and the 3D tracking mode is not reliable enough to trust when it counts. The flash also doesn't pivot, which means you can't bounce it you can only fire it straight ahead.

On the positive side I like the highly customizable auto ISO, which you can also alter the relationship with shutter speed on. Very useful for semi-auto modes like A-mode where you can force a slower shutter speed (and thus lower ISO) on lenses like this 18-140 with VR, or force faster shutter speeds, which I like to do on non-VR lenses. Also I like the touch screen as a controller while using the viewfinder. I still use the directional pad mostly to change focus points to void getting the touchscreen too oily but if you have to change the focus point quickly using the touchscreen as a controller is incredibly fast. This thing is also very light and small – it's basically as big as the mirrorless competition, just a bit thicker to make space for the mirror/prism, and despite its small size, the grip is good.

Overall I think this camera is a mixed bag, and it's too expensive for something that is not totally satisfactory.

  3. can i get this exact kit in romania please? please? please?

  4. ebay dude u got ripped

  5. Great review! I've seen or read lots of reviews on this camera and the one thing that I've never heard reviewers mention is the absolute lack of "Rolling Shutter".  The D5500 handles this issue extremely well.  1080p video is sharp and beautiful from this camera.  Better than "4k" on the iPhone 6S Plus. OTHER STUFF I LIKE ABOUT THE D5500- The buffer never fills up although it's not a really fast burst rate (4-5 fps).- The touch screen works really nicely to zoom in and flip through photos. – The flip-out screen is great for video and for getting the perfect angle-better than "tilt-only" screen.  – The deep grip that makes it a joy to hold, even with my big 70-300 Nikkor attached. – This camera is very light and isn't much bigger than most semi-pro mirrorless camera which provides a nice alternative to mirrorless.- The 24MP sensor does really well up to 6400 ISO and is usable to 12,800 or so.- DSLR style focusing works great; back-button focus possible too.- I have to re-iterate:  The video is incredible from this camera.Save money by getting the D5500 (instead of the D7200 or other overpriced Nikon with the same sensor as this) and buy some good glass!  You won't find a better sensor in any recent camera-Good glass on this camera makes a HUGE difference!
